Maniac Veggies Monsters: Package Design

A challenging personal package design project back in 2015. A fun, colorful, and healthy happy meal for kids who like cartoon monsters and vegetables. It also includes fun activities, funny-looking dressings, and a not-so-fun small accident that almost cost me my index.

Origins

It began with the concept of going against the current of what is common in our daily routine, we were challenged to design a package and build up a prototype. I wanted to explore my childish side while working with elements that were contradictory in my works, simplicity, monsters, and vegetables.

Process

Instead of buying a happy meal from MacDonald’s, I decided to take one from the trash can. I cleaned it up, measure it side-by-side, and tore it apart to build my custom happy meal. I changed the width and height of my package (probably between 5″ to 8″ tall) and redesign the handles, making it look like a mouth with spiky teeth. For a simple prototype, I redrew my custom happy meal on brown crafting paper, cut the parts with an exact knife, and built it up using glue. Once the parts and sizes were confirmed, I printed all the containers on matte paper.

Prototype

The day before delivering the package design, I accidentally cut my a portion of my index finger and was rushed to the hospital, with 8 stitches. This project was one of the most difficult tasks since I had to check all sizes were appropriate and fit accordingly when building up. Nonetheless, this was a fun class and I was very proud of the outcome.
